For my final vision project, I chose to make a screen cast video. This is an introductory video, demonstrating some general features of my symabloo page. This video focuses on how to use my particular symbaloo and how I organized my web mixes. I thought of my own library and what I would like to incorporate in this resource. I am focusing on the transition from library to learning commons therefore I wanted to make sure I incorporated all aspects of the teacher librarian’s role.
Library Learning Commons:
- Support the development of the BC
curriculum core competencies and acquisition of learning standards through
access to, and instruction in, the effective use of print and digital learning resources.
- Foster all literacies, including digital, media,
information and global literacies to empower learners in the acquisition
and development of the Central Okanagan School District Attributes of a
Learner.
- Foster student learning through collaborative planning,
teaching and assessing.
- Allow for flexible scheduling that is responsive to the
needs of all learners.
- Provide an inclusive, flexible, learner-centered,
physical and virtual space
for collaboration, inquiry, innovation and play to expand and deepen learning.
- Support the use of technology for learning to enable
creation, collaboration and communication.

Upon linking my video onto this blog I realized this was going to be more complicated then I thought. Im not sure if it was because this video is quit long but I soon had to find another way to embed the video. I search on google and found a video I have attached below.
My longterm plan for this project is to make several screencast videos, each showing more of an in-depth overview of the different links and applications available. These would then be uploaded to my library learning commons website so students, teacher, and parents were able to properly use my symbaloo page. I would also like to hold lunch & learns within the library where staff and students are able to come and work out troubleshoot problems with certain programs/websites. Here is an example of a lesson I would go over at my lunch & learn
Overall this experience wasn't to painful! The program I used called screencast-o-matic was pretty straight forward. For me I just had to work on making the video a decent size. My first attempt ended up being 25 mins long. By my 10th try I ended up with a video I was happy with. It could probably still use a bit of editing and a better computer to do it on (My mac is over ten years old). As for the actually symabloo page this was such a joy to create. I honestly kept thinking of different categories and resources to add and can't wait to continue this journey throughout my career.
In order to be a 21-century learner,
educators now have the responsibility of incorporating digital and media
literacies into the curriculum. Both literacies draw on the core skills of
critical thinking. Media literacy is teaching students to be critically engaged
consumers of media where digital literacy enables students to participate in
digital media in wise, safe, and ethical ways (mediasmart). This definition
shows the connection these two literacies have, as you can’t do one without the
other.
As Kannikova says we should be, “using
digital apps to train students in the tools of deep reading, to use the digital
world to teach the sorts of skills we tend to associate with quiet
contemplation and physical volumes” (2014). Technology is here to stay and with that
being said we have to responsibility of teaching students the ability to become
information literate.

Thank you for sharing your screencast. I love that not only did you work on your Symbaloo page, but you also challenged yourself to create a screencast video as a way to showcase it! It was great to see your final product in such a 21st century way :)
