Vision for the future

The next step

I find technology to be one of the main concepts which is emerging through different libraries within my district. Part of the reason I decided to become a teacher librarian was the idea of learning how to be more confident in technology. Teacher Librarians (TL) are expected to be technology literate and this is something I am not that strong in. There is also this idea of the library becoming a learning hub for the school. A place were students and teachers can come to enrich their minds, engage their senses and extend their learning.

With my initial goal being to help with the evolution of the learning commons area within the school and incorporate digital literacies, I decided to focus on makerspace. Incorporating technology literacies and providing a space for students to be responsible for their own learning through exploring, inquiry, and building. After continuing on with the course I believe the most important role of the TL is to create a sense of community within the school, bringing students, teachers, and administrators together. A TL works with students in helping them become information literate. They collaborate with teachers to help plan, instruct, and evaluate students learning. They help both students and teachers find answers to questions and provide them with appropriate resources. I also want to showcase literacy, promotion of reading,  and differentiated learning.

Through all of this I began to notice a theme of information and communication weaved throughout all of my course. As a TTOC I have began to acquire many different resources. These resources are from other teachers, schools, and students. As a teacher librarian student, I have started to build even more resources from every course I have taken. Now that I have the information I am now beginning to wonder what is the best way to share these resources with my students, teachers, and schools?

Where do I go from here? What is the best way to share my this information

Being a TTOC makes it important to have something virtual as I want to be able to share this artifact with as many schools as possible.

Idea: I am considering creating a virtual learning commons artifact that can be shared online.
Goals: To create a document/web page/ web app/ with the sole purpose of sharing information and resources with teachers, students, and school communities.

  1. I'm totally with you on learning a new degree of comfort and confidence with technology! I also love how a virtual makerspace provides the options and innovative potential of a traditional (if there is anything such a 'traditional' makerspace!)makerspace without the space requirements, cost of supplies, setup details and teaching around use of supplies. A mentor of mine in Winnipeg has a VM on her LLC website. Check out some of her content!

  2. This was a good overview of your central needs, concerns, approaches and designs for how best to go about becoming a Teacher-Librarian and how to best support your colleagues and students. Good reflection on your personal desires for this project and what you hope to get out of it, as well as ways it can help others in a similar situation. Overall, a good start to your brainstorming and planning.

  3. You nailed it when you say that communication is a key role of the TL. Having a digital means of communicating will save a lot of time. I've never heard of Symbaloo before so I look forward to following you learning journey.
